Beyond the Blank Canvas: A Different Way to Build Your Website
I have a little confession...
I've been sitting on this project for far longer than I ever intended!
Behind the scenes, I've spent the past year (and a bit!) creating something that I'm really excited about. On the surface it started as a fun creative outlet for me as a collection of Squarespace website templates to support my clients, but the more I've reflected on why I wanted to build them, the more I've realised they represent something much bigger than that.
They capture the way I think about design, creativity and building a business (and life) in a way that feels true to you.
So as well as inviting you to explore them, I wanted to share a little more the story behind them.
The blank page problem
If building your website has been sitting on the “I’ll get to it” list, because it feels overwhelming, time-consuming, or hard to visualise - you’re definitely not alone.
Many people don’t struggle because they lack inspiration. They struggle because they don’t have a clear structure to start from and struggle to bring all the pieces together.
I think of it as blank page overwhelm.
If you are anything like me, and many of my clients, you know what you want your business to feel like but you can’t picture how all the parts actual flow together on the page – what text needs to go where, the best images to use, colours and how to set it all out.
You’ve probably even got a folder full of various written notes, images, client testimonials, maybe some blog post drafts, social media captions that you’ve posted, screenshots, maybe even a colour palette and logo ideas.
But turning all of that into a website that feels cohesive, reflects you and your business and helps people take the next step? That's a very different challenge.
Helping people uncover rather than invent
Over the years I realised something.
My focus was less about creating websites from scratch, it was more about helping people uncover what was already there.
The ideas, experience, stories and personality already existed. What people needed wasn't usually more content or more inspiration, it was a flexible structure that helped everything slot into place and make sense.
Time after time, I'd find myself working with clients and explaining where different pieces belonged, sketching out layout flows, helping select the strongest photos and refining copy until clients could finally see their business taking shape.
And the moment I shared that first homepage draft was always the turning point, where suddenly everything they'd been carrying around in their head finally had a home on the page and they could see it comes to life (the best feeling!)
Why I created these website foundations
That's what inspired me to design these website foundations.
Not templates that make every website look the same, but thoughtfully designed starting points that remove the overwhelm of the blank page while leaving plenty of room to make your website your own.
Instead of staring at empty sections or a generic template wondering what actually belongs where, you'll have a clear visual framework to guide you - with copy prompts, visual inspiration and layout flow as well as a toolkit of resources to help you build confidence as you go.
What I have realised (in so many areas of life!) is that intentional structure actually gives your creativity space to play, without the crippling overwhelm of wondering where to start.

Every website foundation is backed by the Template Toolkit.
Whichever option you choose, you'll also receive access to the Template Toolkit - a growing library of video tutorials, prompts and bonus resources designed to guide you from first ideas through to launch (and beyond)
My goal isn't simply to give you a website. It's to help you understand why each piece belongs where it does, so you'll feel confident creating, updating and evolving your website long after it's gone live.
Here’s a sneak peek of the current Toolkit content…
Designed with wellness, outdoor, creative and lifestyle businesses in mind, these foundations are for you have if you've been putting off your website because…
you're not "techy"
you're unsure what to write and how to write it
you feel like you need better photos before you can start
you've got lots of ideas but don't know how they fit together
you want a website that can grow with your business rather than needing to start again every time something changes
Maybe the biggest misconceptions about building a great website is that you need to start from scratch and launch when you are ready with the perfect offer.
Well, I’m here to remind you…
- Working with a thoughtful structure can be so much better than a blank page.
- Your website isn't meant to be a finished brochure.
I believe the strongest websites begin with a thoughtful intentional foundation, that gives you the inspiration and confidence to tell your story, showcase your work and create a home for a business that's continually evolving.
